The Buddhi Program

Care at The neuropsychiatry center goes far beyond medication. In collaboration with TRIMED (also founded by Dr. ESK) we have developed our unique Buddhi program that uses integrative medical therapy to address the brain-mind interface. Blending modern medical scientific specialties (neuropsychopharmacology, physical & occupational therapy, psychological therapy) with the wisdom of ancient traditions (Acupuncture, Acupressure, Ayurveda, Naturotherapy- Hydrotherapy, Mud-therapy, Magneto-therapy; Yoga) we offer our patients a comprehensive care program that restores, rehabilitates and rejuvenates the individual.

Buddhi for Children and Adolescents

Disorders of brain and nervous system development are among the most disabling disorders that affect young children and their families. These include several forms of mental retardation and learning disability, cerebral palsy, dyslexia, autism, attention deficit and hyperactivity disorder and a spectrum of emotional and behavioral disorders including those due to family and school stress.

Children with these disorders need the care and attention of a multi-disciplinary team such as ours, including the neuropsychiatrist, neurodevelopmental therapists, cognitive & behavioral psychologists. In addition, we offer in the Buddhi program, focal child friendly Ayurveda, play yoga, acupressure and a range of mind body interventions, a unique model of comprehensive care. We offer group therapy to enhance emotional expression & socialization; we provide family & caregiver interventions; we liaise with mainstream and special schools; engage in advocacy and consistently work towards encouraging and enhancing the child’s development.

Learning – Aptitute assessment and Career Counselling

Adolescents and young adults often find themselves at the crossroads of academic and career development. Not being sure about one’s future direction is the greatest source of stress for most young people and results in neurological, psychological and sometimes psychiatric symptoms. We use a scientific approach to assess in each individual’s brain dominance, lobar functions, intellectual ability, inherent strengths and weaknesses, personality profiles, aptitude, aspirations and expectations and use this information to provide a comprehensive and customized template, helping the person arrive at a rational and informed choice. We also help youngsters and their families accept and take forward these choices.

Buddhi for Adults

Adults with neuropsychiatric disorders respond well to an integrated care approach that combines drugs & procedures with non-pharmacological therapies. With symptoms of the brain and mind as our focus and modern cutting edge techniques for enhanced brain, body and mind function in the lead, including advanced physical & psychological therapy techniques, we integrate medicines and procedures with ancient medical traditions:

Buddhi for Elders

At Neurokrish we have an Ageing Brain Clinic (ABC) to address memory and other unique problems of brain ageing. As our brains age, we experience the twin troubles of sub-optimal circulation of blood and neuro-chemical degeneration. The consequences are multimodal- motor (physical), cognitive (memory & learning) and emotional-behavioral.

View our Beyond Medication blog- a story of miraculous recovery from debilitating neurological illness.
From a motor perspective, the ageing brain leads to poor hand-eye coordination, disturbances of gait and balance, clumsiness & falls, difficulty in performing talks that require coordinated effort despite seemingly normal power and strength etc.

From the memory and cognition perspective our ability to pay attention and concentrate, commit information to memory, recall critical information when required, synthesize information from multiple sources and utilize the same appropriately, problem-solve etc. all become affected.

From an emotional-behavioral perspective advancing age brings with it the need for sameness, poor acceptance of changing social circumstances, inflexibility and rigidity, low frustration tolerance etc., all of which have an impact both on the person and the family.

While this myriad of problems may present in minor forms, for reasons that are purely physiological (normative brain ageing), they can also herald the onset of pathological changes in the brain with potentially serious consequences.

What we do:

At Neurokrish we carry out a multidisciplinary team assessment, a World Health Organization recognized best practice model, published in the World Health Report on Dementia (2012) of which our founder (Dr. ESK) was the Global Editor. Here, the range of neurobiological factors including reversible causes- deficiencies, hormonal imbalances, subtle infections, undetected inflammations etc., are screened for; we assess physical-motor disability; memory and cognition (neuropsychological assessment); psychosocial, emotional and family factors, caregiver burden and stress etc. The detailed report we generate, invariably gives pointers to appropriate and comprehensive management by our interdisciplinary team. At ABC we plan together with our service affiliates (TRIMED centers and the TRIMED-GRACE home based program) a suitable treatment intervention for the elder.

If you are an elder or have en elderly relative with some problems of brain ageing (detailed herein), do reach out to us.

Buddhi @Home

We offer a comprehensive multidisciplinary service for the elderly and adults with disability who are home bound. We begin with a comprehensive home-based assessment by our multidisciplinary team during which we assess the illness, quantify the level and range of disability and support mechanisms available. Based on these results, we build for each individual a treatment program that decreases symptoms, improves physical and psychological functioning, and provides a better quality of life.

Very often, disabling illness in the elderly impacts on the entire family environment, as a range of dependence and interactional issues are involved. Our team cares for the family and aims to restore normal family functioning.

The Home program today operates out of every one of our TRIMED centers. Our team most proximal to the client’s home begins its work with a multidisciplinary assessment after which we develop a care plan. Based on this care plan a range of treatments including Ayurveda, Naturopathy (including mud therapy, acupressure, reflexology, massage), Yoga, Physiotherapy and counseling (including caregiver counseling) are seamlessly integrated and delivered at the home of the client. The Buddhi program is a unique integration of modern medicine and ancient wisdom to give clients relief from neuropsychiatric symptoms as well as pain, stress, disability and lifestyle problems.
