Duration: 120 minutes
Key Objectives: At the end of this workshop teachers will have a good understanding of how the brains and minds of children work- specifically learning, aptitude and behavior in the child, their problems and how these may be managed.
What is LD? When should I suspected LD? How do I confirm or refute my suspicions? What should I do when LD is diagnosed? What can I do in my classroom? When should I approach a specialist?
What is aptitude? Why is it important? How can it be evaluated? How can the information in aptitude tests be used in the school environment? How should one communicate information about aptitude to parents? How can this information be used to guide course and career choices?
What are age appropriate normal behaviors? What behaviors are clearly abnormal- primary, middle and secondary school? What should I do when a child demonstrates abnormal behavior? When should I inform the parents- what should I tell them? What can I do as a teacher to modify abnormal behavior? When should I ask for specialist help?
